Yesterday was our walk to the old folk's home where we got to make some new friends. This is Wendy's new friend Kate. Kate grew up with three brothers just like Wendy, so they had all sorts of things to talk about. I found it fascinating that Kate lived in the same house for 72 years. That's somethin'! She has three children, and her son stops by nearly every single morning on his way to work and wraps her legs for her and feeds her fish.
Actually, what she said was "My son stops by every morning to wrap my legs and feed my fish and my bird" And I said - You have a bird? Here? She she got a twinkle in her eye, laughed and said - oh, no - ha ha - I don't have a bird here, just fish.
I was telling you a Fib!
I love meeting new people.
I wish we had had time to process immediately after our gathering because I would have loved to hear what all the girls came out of the meeting with. I know one fourth grader - not my own - came up to me with big eyes and said, Coach T, what do I do, my new friend wants to take me to her room! The ladies all loved the meeting so much - her new friend just wanted to share some more pictures and show her where she lives. I promised Kate that we'll come back someday soon and bring her the pictures we took.
There were lots of giggles and fun stories shared.
We were also served cupcakes and brownies, and man oh man oh man - those were the best brownies Ever! I'd choose this place for my old age based on the brownies alone. I don't know how many of these ladies ate their dinner after that.
Just before we left to meet with our rides home, the girls put together a quick song. I have to say I was pretty impressed because this wasn't something we had prepared ahead of time - and they performed like they'd practiced it at least a few times.
Now to get ready for another busy day.
I'm third in line for the shower this morning - don't want to miss my time slot....
