Remember the comic strip, The Family Circus? Sometimes I feel as if we are living that comic. Often I feel like the wandering path panel (I used to love following that trail with my finger as a little girl) - either chasing after a kid, picking up someone's trail - or even in our vehicle...like today.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Sunday mornings do not run smoothly at our house. It's such a change from the Monday thru Friday routine in that everyone is home and in the kitchen and bathroom at the same time - and every Sunday seems to be different in who is home, who is extra, who is sick, who is going morning, who is going afternoon, who is going where and the phone is often ringing. It is difficult to establish routine.
So we become a circus by default. I did think we had it pretty good this morning though, but I was wrong.
Case in point. We got out the door in plenty of time. I am born to be a few minutes early. I don't like to be on time and I don't like to be late. I'm wired to be early.
The extra vehicle was moved out the driveway, the van was warming up and the kids were filing in in an orderly fashion. We pulled out of the driveway on schedule.
Out of the subdivision and down the road, Wendy does an "oh-oh" from the second bench. "Mom....I'm so dumb....I forgot my Bible, Catechism and after church bag"
The first arrow is turnaround number 1.
Allan: But Mom, can't you grab her stuff when you drop me off after morning church?
The second pink arrow is turnaround number 2. Good point, Al.
Me: Wait - by the time we come back home, Sunday School will have already started - she needs her Bible and Catechism before then.
Third pink arrow - turnaround number 3.
Dialogue:
- Wendy: I am so dumb.
Me: Wendy, you are not dumb - you are just disorganized - you need to put all your stuff in one pile ready, so when we go out the door it is all ready to grab.
Wendy: But I DID that and then I walked out the door WITHOUT IT!!!
Home again.
Wendy had the nerve to ask if I was going in to get her stuff, or should she.
Stuff got - we were off again.
Sat in our row just as the first song started.
Phew.

Love it! Just another Manic Sunday in Tormville!

Love! Family circus, indeed. Now you better quit cutting out arrows and move it or your whole Monday is going down the tubes! :)
