So last evening, after a day of laziness, I got all sorts of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - I *needed* to have something to show for my day.
So I dug out those three shirts that I mentioned last week. They've been niggling at me. I made the kids clear the table and I had at it.
I used only the three shirts and thread. Nothing more. I had four different messenger bag patterns open and tried to pull them all together. I found it interesting that each tutorial had a different way of assembling the bag/flap/etc. I'll have to make a couple more and decide which one works best for me. And then share. You'll be glad I'm not sharing step by steps for this one as I pulled stitches a few times. Some tutorials weren't quite clear. *wink*
The front flap of the bag utilizes the bottom front left side of the green shirt. I kept the shape of it when I sewed on the back of it. I also just added some fun stripe and circle action because I really really love these three colors together.
I hand cut a circle and then just went willy nilly over it with my sewing machine and black thread. I sew like I scrapbook - I like the pop of a little border. On the stripe, I did fold over my edges before sewing for a cleaner line.
For the bag straps, I utilized the buttonhole portion of the shirts - all three of them. I overlapped them and just sewing them in a fun whimsical way. I included two buttons.
And I kept the logo from the green shirt.
I also added layers/pockets to both sides of the outside. These are also just the bottom half of the shirt - already hemmed so no need for extra sewing.
They aren't super sturdy - I wouldn't put my money in it I guess - but they are fun.
The liner. It was hard to take a picture of it in the bag, so I flipped it inside out. Again - I utilized the shirt parts and included two pockets.
I guess I could almost use the bag either way - Reversible!
Boxed the bottom and called it done.
That was fun!
Now to keep my daughter from snitching it - I'll have to make another one for her. Maybe I'll use those overalls I've been hoarding.....

Nice Sharyn - love it!
