This week will be spent trying to get ready for traveling/Easter
and hoping we can get rid of the sick bugs. Greg and Wendy were both down yesterday - headaches/felt carsick. No fevers. No other symptoms, but weak.
This will be our first time leaving our dog since we got her in July of 2011. I hope she does well with the dog sitter she lined up. She gets all pouty when Greg starts working too much overtime.
Greg sold a job last week and took his client out to dinner at the Brazilian Steakhouse. He was asked to install the project during July shutdown - but he already has another project going in then. So he'll put this one in earlier. I jokingly said - so, St. Ignace weekend? I was told to bite my tongue.
He'll be on heavy overtime until the end of July. At least.
I work Mon-Thurs
The wedding Saturday was lovely...fun to visit old friends.
Since Greg couldn't make it, I thought I was doing him something nice by bringing home a cigar - I had completely forgotten that he quit smoking them about a month ago.
Went to the gym Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Met my goal for the week. We'll see if I can find any time this week.
Allan changed the battery in his car on Friday with a little coaching from Greg. To change the battery on Al's car, you have to first jack up the car, take off the front drivers side tire.....
George stopped by on Thursday and Friday. Brian wouldn't let him leave on Friday until he played/sang at least ONE song.
Brian gashed his neck yesterday while I was out. The real story is that he was horsing around, fell off his dad's lap and ran his neck along the edge of the desk while falling to the ground. The story they came up with to share at school today involves ninja's and tigers and dark back alleys.
Baseball has been canceled this evening for cold temperatures, which is just as well since it's Mark's last swimming class tonight.
I didn't sign him up for another spring class as we have too many schedule conflicts, so he'll go for a couple weeks in the summer.
I also signed Brian and Mark up for a four day art class this summer. They're pumped. They'd been begging.
His boss wanted him to work today, but I pulled rank and insisted he stay home. He's been working extremely long hours. six days a week. Wednesday I never even saw him. And we leave on Friday and someone has to get the van road trip ready.
And there's a wedding - in less than an hour. And he and the kids were going to accompany me. He was looking forward to seeing friends from his Minnesota home.
But he's sick. Feverish feeling, urpish stomach, headache. weak. You know he's sick when I can't even talk him into having a piece of fresh out of the oven blueberry crumble.
'bout time he took a day off, is what I said. Fingers crossed that he's the last to get it in this house and not the first. I can't keep track anymore what round we're on.
I long for time to think, to pump out a blog worthy essay.
But it won't be today. There are five red bullets on today's calendar.
The first one had me waking up at 5:30 am to put a bun in my daughter's hair.
All the red marks have had me going to the gym late at night. It's that or nothing. I did two hours last night - getting home just after 10.
And the house was quiet. *aaaaaah*
I worked again yesterday where I heard, "Excuse me, Mrs. Lunch Lady - that boy in the very colorful hat was not being nice"
It's still reading month. The one in the above photo enjoys it more than he appears to. He especially enjoys Nate the Great.
At lunch I asked him if he'd shared his birthday treat yet and he said no - that will happen during math time. I then asked if his teacher had seen what he brought. His eyes got real big while shaking his head and saying No way - she's CRAZY for chocolate and would eat them all up!
I want to bring my kids north to see the snow SO bad!
Wendy starts volleyball tonight. Long day for her - she had to be at school an hour and a half early this morning for choir.
It was a busy week last week added to various hacks and sick bugs - so I didn't do very well on preparing for Brian's birthday. We ended up in wing it mode.
I did, however, make some treats for him to bring to class today. I went with the Hershey Bar wrapper and was admittedly bummed when I remembered that the packaging is now one layer and no longer has the silver inner layer. Wah! But they turned out cute just the same. Papers are from my very retro KI Paper stash, and the stamp is from the Turn 29 set. (1 point for retro, 3 points for making 24 wrappers for class!)
I had no energy to bake or shop for a cake on Saturday, so Brian and I went and checked out the new bakery in town to see what they had for cakes. They don't have any cakes ready-made (have to call two days ahead) but they had cupcakes. Brian, who had originally requested a strawberry cake was very pleased and easy to switch to green frosted cupcakes.
They also gave him a free clover cookie when they heard it was his birthday, so he was feeling pretty special.
They were good!
After lunch - the guys (Brian, Mark, Allan, my husband and George) all went to Great Escape and rode gocarts. Brian and Mark are both too short, so they rode shoddy with Greg and Allan. They came home full of excitement about how fun it was. I forgot to check my husband's phone for photos.
One of Brian's gifts was Fart Bombs. Learn from our experience - don't explode these in the house. Wow. We opened all the windows and doors (and put on our jackets) and it still stunk an hour later. Gross.
Brian and Mark spent a good portion of the afternoon working on Brian's new Lego set.
It was a good day.
I even made it to the gym for the first time since LAST Sunday.
As for this week? Whew.
Mark - Swimming. Two classes left
Wendy starts volleyball
Conferences x 2
Hoping to get to the gym 4x
trying to prepare for travels and Easter
Working at least twice
a wedding on Saturday
Greg is still on overtime (and probably will be until the end of July)
will pick out his own birthday cake this afternoon (the trick is to make it sound like a fun adventure)
loves to create, loves art
is cutting his paper for church in the above photo
uses big words
doesn't seem to notice or mind that the leprechauns didn't wreak havoc on his birthday this year
not fond of too many sports, but does love soccer
fights with his little brother, but misses him when he's gone
has frequent random aches and pains. This past week it was his legs. and armpit.
is proud of his skinny-ness. Was heard saying last week after dinner, "I'm fat, full and happy! Oh...wait...make that skinny, full and happy!" and then he laughs, pulls up his shirt and shows us his ribs.
is still the best monkey hugger ever. His long skinny limbs just wrap right around the receiver.
just left for Sunday School....which gives me an hour to remember where I hid his birthday present two months ago,....
I feel like all my posts lately are in the bullet format
Life is busy
Our whole house is battling the dry hacking bug. Yuck. Working in the school this week - it's going around. More than one kid has come up to me on recess telling me that they've coughed so hard they've puked. Such a lovely time of the year.
I haven't had the energy to put any thought at all into Brian's quickly coming up birthday.
I haven't had any energy to get to the gym this week. It's frustrating me
Our house is still adjusting to the time change. Mark was just ticked that he had to wake up this morning. If you know Mark you can just hear him ranting - What?! But I'm STILL TIRED!!!!
Brian rolls his eyes while buttoning his shirt right up to his neck, "whatever"
And then there's Calvinball. I'm still playing - just haven't had many moments to sit down and tally points, but I did that this morning.
Layouts - I Blogging - IIII IIII Project Life - IIII Cards - 1/2
Cleaning - I Scheming - I Scrapping WITHOUT chocolate (since I gave up chocolate in January) - I Hosting my mom for 7 nights - III Scrapping after my bedtime - I Trying McDonalds Fish Nuggets on the Calvinball hostess's sayso - III
Total Points - 25.5
Hoping to triple that in the last half of the month, while taking a few extra points for committing to the challenge without knowing I would be traveling the end of this month.
Brian tried wrapping her up in one of his famous monkey hugs while telling her that it would really be better to just wait until summer to travel back north - but she left anyway.
She was going to leave yesterday, but the travel weather was too crummy...and then she was going to leave on Thursday - but she was afraid I was going to make her drink more of my apple cider vinegar concoctions if she stayed one more day (and I would have...she was right)
We all have the seasonal head colds. Blah.
Today I'll make lists - I'm feeling a little overwhelmed when I look ahead to what is on our schedule for this month and the next few.
Greg woke up at 4:30 for work today. He's been getting home from work near 8:00 most nights. We've become ships passing in the night again.
Today I have my ankle wrapped in a support. Strangest thing EVER - I was scrubbing potatoes at the sink yesterday and all of a sudden I couldn't put ANY weight on my left foot. Could NOT walk. I had to send a big kid out to get the boys from school. I could just imagine telling the doctor that seriously - all I was doing was scrubbing spuds! Meanwhile, my mom got quite a kick out of it because apparently I'm the same age now as she was when she woke up one morning to find that she had fractured her ankle while sleeping. ????? What in the world?? That would be some weird genetics. Hers was a spiral fracture. I've not gone in for mine - I put my feet up last evening, used some oils on it - have it in a support now and am able to walk, although a little bit hesitantly. I'll give it a few days and see if it happens again. Odd.
The sun is shining today, looks lovely with the fresh layer of snow we got last night.
Off to enjoy it with some list making and Calvin ball catching upping before my lunch shift at the elementary.
