It turns out that while I was told we would only have free wifi access in the clubhouse, *surprise* we have it in our unit. So it makes it easier to post pictures along the way. 8am and everyone is still sound asleep.
This is good.
Yesterday morning I finished packing, and then ran to the doughnut shop to get a faux birthday cake for our now adult.
Then I pushed him out the door to get his new plates, register to vote, register for the draft and told him that the fact we're paying for his tabs, that IS his birthday present.
Then we left for vacation. He chose to stay home and appreciate the quiet. He really is growing up.
It took us pretty much exactly 3.4 hours to get here. When I checked in and got our room key, they threw so much information at me about what to do here and there and in the surrounding area - that I'm not sure how much I grasped - but I told my mom that they had said something about Friday night stroll the streets - and maybe we should figure out where that was and what it's about. I like music and balloon makers and magicians, aftterall.
It was a beautiful night, and none of my kids fell in the river. All my threats not to do so helped.
I think we saw four balloon shapers total. The kids LOVED their hats. The whole atmosphere was so relaxed and I loved listening to the music in the background by one of the several groups while the kids were getting decked out.
A little further up the streets we bumped into an art studio and the kids each took turns making a piece of art on a spinning wheel. It was such a neat project.
I forgot to take a picture of them with their finished pieces. Later.
I ran into an antique store real quick to check out some comics I had seen from the window. I would have liked to poke around the store a bit more, but while my kids would have been fine in the store normally - those hats kept me from bringing them in. In fact, those hats prevented me from going into any stores at all. They were dangerous when they turned their heads. Saved me a lot of money, those hats.
The guy on the right yelled after me that he'd like the negative for this photo (boy, is that dated) so if you know him, tell him it's here.
Music, art, balloon shapers - and then a little further up one of the side streets - the library was putting on a whole festival within the festival. Each of us got five free tickets - and it was one ticket for a sno-cone, one ticket for cotton candy, one ticket to do the cake walk....
We went back to our time share with TREATS!!
They could also use the tickets to play games, and when they won the game (getting the toilet paper into the bowl) they'd get a token - and they could use the token to pick out a prize! I kept saying, wow - what a GREAT town, The boys each chose a bubble blowing gun.
What a great place.
As for today - we decided to do Mackinac Island on Sunday as my mom's knee is bothering her. We're hoping another low key day will have her island ready.
So today we'll....
- go on a free tour of the chocolate factory
- head up the chairlifts for a view from the top of the mountain
- check out Petosky
- find the free putt-putt
- go swimming
Should be a great day!
