I thought I should try and finish up my trip postings this morning, as my kids are working their way home as I type. It only gets busier after that.
On the Saturday of the wedding, we went to visit Greg's mom and dad. You'll remember that Greg's dad was diagnosed with lung cancer just before Christmas - the same time that Jordanna and Marcus were engaged. This wedding became his goal - he wanted to see his oldest granddaughter get married - and they made it. Travelling from Minnesota to Upper Michigan in two days.
Before I could remind our in house hugger that we don't hug cancer patients, he was on grandpa's lap. I quick snapped a picture and then shuffled him off. Mark has a real hard time resisting hugs. I had to remind him again when grandpa was making his way from the chair to the table and it took all Mark had to back away. It's a good memory.
We didn't stay too long, but long enough that I was able to steam the mother of the bride's dress before pictures, and sneak a snapshot.
Later, at the wedding, I chose not to take my big camera. My cousin Brita was the photographer and I told her that I'd just prefer to order from her. I love her work. You can see her captures from the wedding here, here and here.
You can see mine....here:
Our nephew/Godson Desmond (Johnie and Renee's). We got in a lot of bonding time over the weekend.
My mom, my mother-in-law and my auntie Barb. Longtime friends.
Desmond's older sister, Penny.
It was a beautiful wedding.
Another day, we made a quick visit to see my grandma at her apartment. She's 93 now, but still remembers all the names. She asked Brian (by name) how he was feeling. (He'll stay off wheat for one more month, and then we'll begin slowly reintroducing it back into his diet. Doctor's orders. We'll still keep our appointment with the JRA specialist at the end of this month in order to make sure we're exploring all avenues that could be causing his aches and pains)
And on mine and Allan's last evening, we took a drive down to Eagle River.
Allan had quipped, we know we're up north now because there are people in winter jackets and people in swimsuits all on the same beach, and that was accurate. The wind was cold. I had goosebumps and was wishing I had a jacket.
The boys, meanwhile, were thinking I should have just let them put on their suits. They put them on for the ride back to grandmas so they had something dry.
Good memories made.
----
And since people have asked - Greg's dad is back home, and began hospice care last Friday - coming two/three times per week and leaving instructions that two people be with Robert at all times for his other care.
We're grateful that we were able to see him and be there for the wedding.
----
As for today - my kids are coming home!
Off to purge their closets and hope they don't realize what they're missing!
perfect days and wonderful memories.. thank you for sharing the photos.. filled my heart with happy.
