The day started normal enough, with me waking up Wendy and bringing her to the blueberry patch - but this time I stayed and picked 12 pounds of berries for our own freezer. I'd been wanting to pick for awhile, but my summer days seem to be full of shuttling kids back and forth and with few possibilities for good weather picking. Nearing the end of the season - it was pretty much today or never.
In the field, it was even more evident that I was having a hard time taking a deep breath. I'd been telling Greg since Sunday, that I felt like my body was fighting something. Mild enough that I didn't go in, but yet there enough that I've been feeling real fatigued. Berries picked, I finally went in. I've got stuff to get done, after all, and the fatigue was beginning to get on my nerves. That breathing thing was a bit of a bother and concern too. Add to that, my fitbit was telling me my heart rate was running higher than normal the last few days.
Diagnosis - Asthmatic Bronchitis. Again. Along with another sinus infection. I'm on my third round of Prednisone for the summer - so at least I'm covered if I did come in contact with that poison ivy I found behind the air conditioner this week. Bonus. I'm on a couple other things as well.
I headed home to round up the kids for a planned outing, with hopes to pick up my meds along the way as the doctor encouraged me starting them as soon as possible.
They weren't ready, so we kept driving.
Some lunch and socializing - the boys then decided to go for a little burn on the bikes before jumping in the pool. We hadn't even been there a half an hour yet when Brian came in with what I felt sure must have been a leg bone sticking out of his limb judging by the reactions on my relative's faces. The story has something to with his bike not having brakes, someone pulling out of a driveway and him swerving to miss them and landing hard through a wooden fence.
And it wasn't a leg bone but it was quite the gash. So much so that when I walked into a very familiar Redicare with him soon after, they sent me right back out the door and told me to get him to the ER. I managed a left on Grand River and got him where he needed to be before he passed out or went into shock. His teeth began chattering during check in, but he never did black out or puke.
I'll save you the gory pictures I took - pictures I took because Allan is still mad I didn't take a picture of his wound before he got his chin stitches years ago - but it was a laceration worthy of sixteen stitches followed by directions of no karate or swimming for 10-14 days.
He destroyed the previous family record by at least ten stitches.
We went back and rounded up Mark, picked up meds, had dad get dinner, took care of our gardening duties and then I took a nap.
Brian and I are going to lay low tomorrow, Saturday, while Greg, Wendy and Mark head out to the Maker Faire.

Added bonus: In asking his health history, they wondered which femur he had broken eight years ago - something that I stumble on each time they ask. I told them I couldn't remember at the moment, but I would forever after as now I'll be able to say either that it's the leg with the scar, or the other leg. I looked it up - the scar will be on the same leg as his old femur break. What luck!
I'm hoping to have perked up enough to take care of all the fruits and vegetables taking over my kitchen. That's the plan.
