I get four paid vacation days.
They were all planned for this last couple months of the school year. Today? Today I was scheduled to be in New York with Brian, chaperoning the band trip. Yesterday would have had us on an all day bus ride, followed by a sunset cruise to see the Statue of Liberty.
Instead, he got this Statue of Liberty Lego set for his birthday. We'll try again. Chances are that 'next time' will be when his brother is also in the high school band.
Our refunds are expected to take 8-12 weeks. I get that. For us to get our money back, the tour company needs to get their money back from all the events we were attending. It's a process, and it's understandable.
Last Saturday was originally one of those busy days, where everything fell on the same day. I was going to attend an all-day conference and head straight from there to a wedding. Brian had an archery event that we were hosting at home. There were other things that we had to say no to due to an already full day.
The remainder of my vacation days were going to be used to go with Brian to Kentucky for Nationals. NASP posted rankings last night based on top scores of the season. Brian's high school, a third year team, scored in the top 10%. Well done. He immediately got his calculator out to figure his own personal ranking. Also in the top 10%.
Now, with things canceling well into mid-summer, I wonder when we'll ever get back to that type of busy-ness.
I can't say that I mind the slow pace. I enjoy projects. We all have hobbies. I wouldn't say we are bored, but the repetitiveness is hard to take. I need to work harder on creating some variety and seeking out permissible adventures.

Other stuffs:
- I finished the taxes yesterday. The last of the must-dos. It always feels good to get that done, and I always wonder why I took so long. I think this time, I just wanted to do it after the traditional tax day, just because. Also, we owe for the first time ever, so there is that.
- I was taking advantage of an Eddie Bauer sale yesterday and placing an order. I asked Greg if he needed anything, so he pulled up the page to have a look.
Greg: Why is there a section for pull-on pants? What other kinds of pants are there? - It might be nice enough this afternoon for us to perform a few haircuts on the back deck. Greg and Mark are first in line.
- I'll at least wait to hear what we learn from today's press conference. We already know the stay-at-home is being extended, but there is some expectation that some people will be permitted to go back to work. My personal interest is for hairdressers and dentists, both of which I had appointments for that first week we shut down.
- I don't mind if informal hearings are still delayed. I'm kind of curious how many reschedule notices I'll have stacked up by the time I can really go. I have three in the pile so far.
- My finger isn't healed enough to play the guitar yet, but typing is easier than it was a few days ago.
- Did I mention that my chalk broke, resulting in me dragging my pointer finger across the concrete - blood everywhere? I don't remember if I shared that.
- I finished my chalked sentiments anyway, because the finger had gone numb. It rained a few hours later.
- If we make it through today without going to the grocery store, we'll have beaten out previous record of ten days.
- We still have some chocolate in the house, so I'm optimistic.
Happy Friday!
be good
